Create an Exit-Intent Pop-up

An exit-intent pop-up appears when a visitor's cursor heads toward the browser bar or close button. It gives you a final chance to offer a discount, lead magnet or newsletter signup.

Build it

  1. Create or choose the form you will use. New submissions become Contacts.
  2. Go to Sites > Funnels or Websites and open the page or step.
  3. Click Edit, then click Pop-up Settings in the top bar.
  4. Click Add Row, then Add Element, and choose a Form from the picker.
  5. Style the pop-up to match your brand. You can switch to another form from the sidebar dropdown.
  6. Click the Pop Up Settings button with the gear icon on the pop-up.
  7. Scroll to Show Pop-up On and choose Exit. None or Delay will not give the behavior you want.
  8. Save and publish.

Test it

Preview the page and move your cursor toward the top of the browser as if leaving. The pop-up should appear.

Desktop and mobile

Exit intent relies on cursor movement, so it fits desktop best. Phones have no cursor, so consider a timed pop-up for mobile visitors.

Tips

  • Lead with a clear, one-line benefit.
  • Ask for as little as possible, often just an email.
  • Pair it with a Workflow that sends the promised offer immediately.

Good to know: An exit offer works best when it is different from what is already on the page, such as a bonus or short guide.
