Set Up a Dynamic (Per-Contact) Countdown Timer
A dynamic timer gives every contact their own deadline. Instead of everyone racing toward the same date, the clock begins when that individual's email is sent or first opened. It is ideal for evergreen offers such as "Claim this within 24 hours".
Choose a Trigger
- Email Sent: the countdown starts the moment the message goes out.
- Email Opened: the countdown starts the first time the contact opens it. If they never open it, it never starts.
An Email Opened timer fires only once per contact. Opening the same email again shows the time remaining from the original start, not a fresh window.
Duration and End Time
- Duration only: turn off Set End Time. A 2-hour timer opened at 2:00 PM ends at 4:00 PM; opened at 5:00 PM it ends at 7:00 PM.
- Duration with end time: turn on Set End Time to align expiry with a clock time, for example 11:00 PM. If the duration cannot finish before that time, the deadline rolls to the next occurrence of it.
Build It
- Go to Marketing, then Countdown Timers, and click + New.
- Pick a design and set Timer Type to Dynamic.
- Select the trigger and enter the Duration.
- Decide whether to use Set End Time.
- Choose the Time Zone and, if wanted, tick Adapt to Contact Time Zone.
- Enter the Active Link and Expired Link, then style the timer.
- Name it, Save, and add it to your email and landing page.
- Send yourself a test to confirm the trigger, duration, and links.
Good to know: If the same contacts will see a new dynamic offer in a different campaign, clone the timer first; an already-triggered timer will not hand out a second window.
