Getting Started with Custom Objects
Contacts, opportunities, and companies cover a lot — but not everything. If your business tracks properties, pets, vehicles, policies, subscriptions, or projects, those things deserve their own structured record type. That's what custom objects are for.
What a custom object is
A custom object is a first-class record type you define yourself, with its own fields and its own relationships to your other data. It behaves like any standard CRM object.
When to use one
Good fits: property listings linked to buyers and agents, pet records linked to owners, projects linked to clients — anything that's a repeatable, structured "thing" your business manages at scale.
Not a good fit: event attendees (contacts already handle this well), internal notes or activity logs.
Why bother
Without custom objects, this kind of data usually ends up stuffed into custom fields on a contact record, or tracked in a spreadsheet outside the CRM entirely.
Where to start
Head to Settings → Objects to create your first custom object.
