React to Won and Lost Deals with the Opportunity Status Changed Trigger

An opportunity's status tells you where it stands overall: open, won, lost or abandoned. The Opportunity Status Changed trigger starts a workflow when that status changes, which makes it perfect for celebrations, hand-offs and win-back campaigns.

What fires it

The workflow runs when an opportunity's status changes, for example from Open to Won. Stage moves within a pipeline do not count; use Pipeline Stage Changed for those.

Filters

  • Moved From Status: the previous status.
  • Moved To Status: the new status.
  • In Pipeline and Pipeline Stage: narrow to one pipeline or stage.
  • Assigned To: a specific team member.
  • Lead Value: a minimum or maximum amount.
  • Tag: include or exclude by tag with Equals to, Not equals to, Any of and None of.

Set it up

  1. Go to Automation > Workflows and create a workflow.
  2. Click Add New Trigger and select Opportunity Status Changed.
  3. Name it, for example "Deal won".
  4. Click Add filters, choose Moved To Status and select Won.
  5. Click Save Trigger, add actions, and publish.

Use cases

  • Won deal: congratulate the owner, ask finance to invoice and send the customer an onboarding message.
  • Lost deal: wait 30 days, then send a check-in; use Moved From Status to separate deals that were once open from ones that were reopened.
  • Reopened deal: notify the owner when a lost deal returns to open.
  • Abandoned deal: create a task asking the owner to confirm and log a reason.

Tips

  • Combine with Lead Value to give large wins a more personal reaction.
  • Add a Condition to stop messaging contacts who have other open deals.

Good to know: Pick a single target status per trigger so each result, won or lost, gets its own clear path.
