Choose a Server Location for Your WordPress Site

Where your site's files live affects how fast pages open for visitors. During setup you can pick the data center region closest to your audience, without configuring any extra caching or delivery network.

Available regions

  • United States: Ashburn, Phoenix, Dallas
  • United Kingdom: London
  • Germany: Frankfurt
  • Netherlands: Amsterdam
  • Australia: Sydney
  • Singapore

Why it matters

  • Speed: shorter distances mean quicker page loads for local visitors.
  • Compliance: you can keep European visitors' data on European servers, or Asia-Pacific data in the region.
  • Clarity: the chosen region appears on your site card in the dashboard.

How to select a region

  1. Click Sites in the left menu, then the WordPress tab.
  2. Click + Create Site, or click Complete Setup on a site you have already paid for but not finished.
  3. Choose a setup method: Blank, Existing Site (clone), or Template.
  4. Open the Server Location dropdown and choose the data center nearest your customers.
  5. Click Create to build the site.

The location is permanent

Your files and database sit on physical hardware in the chosen region, so the setting is locked as soon as the server starts. This also prevents accidental changes that could disturb caching or security certificates. If you later need a different region, you have two options:

  1. Clone the site into a new region, then point your domain to the new copy.
  2. Delete and recreate the site, which erases the existing data, so use it only for sites you can rebuild.

Good to know: Choose the region based on where most of your customers are, not where you are, since your own distance matters far less than theirs.
