Connect One Task to Multiple Records

A single task often relates to more than one record — a follow-up call might involve a contact, the deal they're part of, and the company they work for. Instead of creating separate tasks for each, you can link one task to all of them at once.

What you can link a task to

Contacts, Opportunities, Companies, or any Custom Object — up to 10 associations per object type on a single task.

Smart defaults when creating a task

  • A task created from a Contact automatically links that contact and its primary company.
  • A task created from an Opportunity automatically links the opportunity, its primary contact, and that contact's primary company.

You can add more associations manually on top of these defaults, up to the 10-per-object-type limit.

Where you'll see it

Every linked record shows the task in its Associated Objects section — so the same task is visible from the contact's page, the opportunity's page, and the company's page, without you having to duplicate it.

Filtering tasks

You can filter your task list by linked contacts, linked opportunities, and other criteria, combined with status and assignee filters — useful when you want to see every task tied to a specific deal or account.

Editing associations later

Open the task and click the pencil icon next to Associated Objects to add or remove links at any time.

Good to know

  • The 10-per-object-type limit applies platform-wide.
  • Workflow automation for creating these multi-object associations automatically isn't available yet — this is a manual feature for now.
