Find a Broken Plugin With the Plugin Troubleshooter

When a WordPress site suddenly breaks, the cause is very often a plugin conflict. The Plugin Troubleshooter automates the usual detective work of turning plugins off and on, and it works even when you see the "white screen of death".

How it works

The tool temporarily switches plugins off in smart groups and reloads your site after each round until it pinpoints the one causing the trouble. You can mark plugins that must stay active, so your site's core features keep working during testing.

Run it

  1. Go to Sites > WordPress and click Manage Website on the affected site.
  2. Open the Quick actions dropdown in the top right and choose Troubleshoot site.
  3. In the Find issues panel, click Start the process.
  4. Select only the plugins your site truly cannot work without, then click Confirm plugins.
  5. Watch the Finding the fix screen and click Continue when prompted.
  6. If it reports broken plugins, click Deactivate the plugin.
  7. On the Issues fixed screen, click Yes, it is fixed if the site works again, or Still broken to keep digging.

If nothing is found

The tool may report that no plugin issues were found. You can click Return to dashboard, or Restart troubleshooting and change which plugins you marked as essential. If plugins are not the cause, look at your theme, PHP version, or recent code changes.

After the fix

  • Look for an update to the faulty plugin, or choose an alternative.
  • Check whether it appears in the restricted plugin list.
  • Test updates in a staging copy before applying them to the live site in future.

Good to know: Keep your essential-plugins selection short; the more plugins you protect, the fewer the tool can test.
