Email Sequences: Automated Threaded Follow-Ups (Beta)

An email sequence is an ordered series of automated emails sent to a contact as one continuous conversation. Instead of separate messages that look unrelated, each follow-up appears in the same thread. Sequences are currently in beta and may be limited to accounts that opted in.

What a sequence can include

  • Several email steps.
  • Delays between steps.
  • Conditions, such as sending a step only if the previous email was delivered or opened.
  • Automatic stopping when a contact replies.
  • Designed emails or plain-text emails.

When to use one

  • Following up with leads who have not answered.
  • Welcome and onboarding series.
  • Reminders for events, demos or appointments.
  • Gentle nurturing over time.

Sequence, campaign or Workflow?

  • A campaign sends one email, or one scheduled blast, to an audience.
  • A sequence sends several linked follow-ups from the campaigns area, with threading and reply-based stopping.
  • A Workflow is the broader tool. Choose it when you need other channels, complex branching, pipeline changes or tasks.

Why threading helps

Recipients see the history in one place, which feels more personal and keeps context. The conversation also appears in Conversations for your team.

Reporting

You can review performance for the whole sequence and for each step, so you can see which email is working and which needs improvement.

Good to know: Sales-style follow-ups often do best as plain text, while onboarding sequences can use designed emails with helpful links.
