Identity Verification (KYC) for Phone Numbers
To reduce spam and fraud, telecom regulators require providers to confirm who's actually behind a phone number before it can be used to call or text. Vendi Today handles this through an identity verification step called KYC ("Know Your Customer").
When you'll be asked to verify
- Purchasing a US, Canadian, Puerto Rican, or Israeli number for the first time on your account.
- Purchasing a number in a country with its own regulatory requirements (for example, the UK — see Regulatory Bundles & Address Verification for country-specific bundle requirements).
- Certain compliance actions, like A2P brand registration or toll-free verification, may also require it if you haven't completed it yet.
Verification is generally one-time per account — once approved, you won't be asked again for future number purchases or compliance steps on the same account.
What you'll need
- A valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID (passport, driver's license, or national ID card) from your current country of residence.
- A live selfie taken through your webcam or phone camera at the time of verification.
- For UK verification specifically: your name, UK address, date of birth, and contact details (individuals), or your registered company name, registration number, business address, and an authorized representative's details (businesses).
How to complete it
- Go to Settings > Phone System and start a number purchase (or the compliance step that's prompting verification).
- Upload a photo of the physical, original ID — not a screenshot, scan, or digital copy.
- Complete the live selfie check when prompted.
- Submit and wait for review.
Tips to avoid rejection
- Use an ID issued by the country you currently live in — a foreign ID for your current address is a common rejection reason.
- Make sure the photo is sharp, well-lit, uncropped, and shows the entire document with no glare.
- Don't refresh, close, or navigate away mid-session — an interrupted session can stay pending for up to 24 hours before it updates.
- Double-check that your name and details match exactly what's on your account.
If verification keeps failing after a genuine attempt with a valid document, contact support — they can reset the session so you can try again.
