Locate a Contact's Existing Deal with Find Opportunity
Find Opportunity looks for an existing opportunity linked to the contact and makes it the one later steps work on. It is the key to updating, assigning or removing a deal that did not trigger the workflow.
Settings
- Action Name: required.
- Opportunity to be Found: Earliest or Latest matching opportunity.
- Filters: any number of conditions on opportunity fields such as name, status or value. All filters must match.
If several deals match, only the earliest or latest, as chosen, is returned.
Branches
The action creates Opportunity Found and Opportunity Not Found paths.
Set it up
- Add a trigger, for example Form Submitted.
- Click + and add Find Opportunity.
- Choose Earliest or Latest and add filters, such as Status is Open.
- Save, then build each branch.
- Publish and test with a known contact.
Example
A lead submits a form. Find Opportunity searches for their open deal. If found, Update Opportunity moves it forward. If not found, Create Opportunity adds one.
Important
If the workflow has no contact, as with some webhooks, map filter fields to webhook values so the action knows what to search for.
Good to know: Put an Add Owner, Add Follower or Update step after the Found branch, since those depend on this action to know which deal to change.
