End a Phone Menu Call from a Workflow

Phone menus built in workflows can leave callers on hold after the last menu step while the rest of the workflow keeps running. The End IVR Call action closes the call at the moment you choose.

Why use it

Without it, the call stays connected until the whole workflow finishes, so callers may hear hold music while unrelated steps (tags, notifications, field updates) complete. Ending the call cleanly shortens call time and gives a better experience.

How to add it

  1. Open the workflow containing your phone menu steps.
  2. Click + after the last menu step, for example after a Gather, a message, or a recording.
  3. Search for End IVR Call and add it.
  4. Choose how the call ends.
  5. Click Save.

Ending options

  • End abruptly (default): the call drops instantly with no message.
  • Text message: type a closing line that is spoken to the caller, and set how many times it repeats.
  • Custom audio: upload a recorded message or branded audio, and set the number of repeats.

What happens afterward

Any phone menu steps placed after this action are skipped. Steps that are not part of the call, such as sending a text or adding a tag, continue to run as normal.

Tips

  • Use a friendly spoken message such as "Thank you for calling, goodbye" rather than ending abruptly.
  • Add the action to every branch of your phone menu so no path leaves callers waiting.
  • It is not a premium action, so it carries no extra execution charge.

Good to know: Place follow-up text or email steps after the call ends so people receive them right as they hang up.
