Capture Lead Source and Time Zone Automatically

Two quiet features record useful context with each submission without asking the visitor anything.

The Source field

The Source element stores a preset value, invisible to visitors, and saves it as the contact's Contact Source.

  1. Open the form or survey in the builder.
  2. Add the Source element (under Quick Add > Customized).
  3. Type the value you want to record, such as "spring-flyer".
  4. Save, submit a test, and confirm the value in the submission and on the contact.

To reuse one form across campaigns, add ?source=newsletter to the link. The URL value overrides the one set in the builder for that submission. This Source value is separate from marketing attribution data such as UTM parameters.

Time zone capture

Submissions record the visitor's time zone, shown as a region with its GMT offset. It is on by default and can be switched on or off in the builder under Options > Timezone.

You can use the saved time zone to schedule texts and emails so they reach people at a sensible local time.

Review the data

Open Sites > Forms > Submissions (or Surveys) and select a response to view the source and time zone. Contact Source can also be used in Contacts filters and reports.

Good to know: Use short, consistent source names in lowercase with dashes so filters group them correctly.
