Tag and Untag Contacts Automatically with Workflow Actions
Tags are the quickest way to label where a contact is in your process. The Add Contact Tag and Remove Contact Tag actions keep those labels accurate without anyone touching the record.
Add Contact Tag
- Select Tags: pick one or more existing tags from a searchable dropdown. Chosen tags show above the list.
- Add New Tag: type a name that does not exist and click Add New Tag to create and select it. It becomes available everywhere.
- The small x on a tag removes it from the action setup only, not from any contact.
Remove Contact Tag
- Tags: choose the tags to take off the contact.
- Remove All Tags: switch this on to clear every tag. The Tags picker is disabled while it is on.
Set up either action
- Open Automation > Workflows and edit a workflow.
- Click + and choose Add Contact Tag or Remove Contact Tag.
- Name the action, choose the tags, and click Save Action.
- Publish the workflow.
Examples
- Add "Webinar Interested" at signup. If the webinar trigger reports the contact did not attend, remove "Webinar Interested" and add "Missed Webinar" so only the right people get the replay email.
- When a customer replies "stop", remove the "Active Lead" tag.
Good to know: Tag changes can start other workflows, so check that removing a tag will not accidentally trigger a sequence you did not intend.
