Create or Update Contacts Automatically with the Create Contact Action
The Create Contact action adds a new contact record, or refreshes an existing one, using values from the workflow. It is the usual first step when a workflow begins with data that is not tied to a contact yet.
What you can fill in
- Standard fields: first name, last name, email, phone, address and similar.
- Custom fields: your own fields such as Membership ID or Referral Source.
You can type fixed values or insert merge fields from the trigger, for example data coming from a webhook or an integration.
Set it up
- Open Automation > Workflows and edit or create a workflow.
- Click + and choose Create Contact.
- Give it a descriptive Action Name, like "Create contact from web form".
- Add each field you want to set and choose its value.
- Click Save, test with sample data, then publish.
Example uses
- Web form capture: map first name, last name, email, phone, city and country, then notify your sales team.
- After a purchase: update the customer's record with their latest order details in a custom field.
- Partner leads: an inbound webhook delivers lead details from another system and the action turns them into contacts.
Tips
- Always include a reliable identifier such as email so repeat submissions update the same person.
- Later steps can use the new contact, so place tags, notes and messages after this action.
Good to know: Keep the field mapping complete, because blank values can leave messages and later steps without the information they need.
