Understanding Opportunities
An opportunity is a record of a potential deal, tracking the money side of a relationship separate from the general contact record.
What lives on an opportunity
A link to its contact(s), a dollar value, its pipeline and stage, a source, an owner and followers, a running history of notes/tasks/communication.
The four statuses
Open, Won, Lost, Abandoned. Status is separate from pipeline stage — a deal can be Open at any stage.
Why separate opportunities from contacts
A contact can span multiple deals over time. Opportunities track each deal on its own timeline while keeping the bigger contact picture intact — and enable reporting like total pipeline value, win rate, and average deal size.
