Track Chat Widget Activity in Google Analytics 4

If your site already uses Google Analytics 4, you can see how visitors interact with your chat widget without extra tools.

What gets tracked

  • widget-open: a visitor opens the chat.
  • widget-close: the visitor closes it.
  • form-submit: a chat form is submitted.

These appear in GA4 under the Chat event category. The set of events is fixed; custom events are not supported.

Requirements

  • Google Analytics 4 must be installed on the same site or funnel as the widget, either directly or through Google Tag Manager.
  • The widget must be installed on the same pages you want to measure.
  • This works on Vendi Today sites and on outside sites such as WordPress, Wix or Shopify.

Set it up

  1. Install your GA4 tag in the head section of your pages, or add it through Tag Manager.
  2. In Sites > Chat Widget, open your widget, click Get Code and use the Via GTM version if you are using Tag Manager.
  3. Place the widget code in the page body.
  4. If the events do not appear on their own, ask Vendi Today support for the event tracking snippet and add it below the widget code.

Check that it works

Use Tag Assistant or GA4 DebugView, then open and close the widget and submit the form. Events appear under Events in your GA4 property.

Good to know: GA4 can take several hours to show new events in standard reports, so use DebugView for instant confirmation.
