Email Appearance Settings: Colors, Width, Buttons and Dividers
The Appearance panel controls the look of the entire email at once. Set it first and every new block inherits a consistent style.
Opening Appearance
- Go to Marketing > Emails and open a template or campaign.
- Click Appearance in the top toolbar.
Template settings
- Background Color: the color behind the whole message.
- Body Color: the color of the content area where text and images sit. Keep strong contrast with your text.
- Content Width: commonly 600 pixels. Very wide emails can crowd mobile screens.
- Background Image: upload a picture or paste a secure (HTTPS) image URL. Set a fallback background color, because some inbox apps do not show background images.
Color fields accept hex codes and custom values, and the canvas updates instantly.
Button defaults
Choose a default corner radius, button color, font and font size. You can also set separate colors for bold, italic and underlined text inside buttons. Individual buttons can still override these defaults.
Divider defaults
Set the line height (thickness, 2 pixels by default), color and style such as solid, dashed or dotted, so every divider matches.
Custom CSS
Advanced users can add CSS here for finer control. Email apps support CSS unevenly, so keep rules simple and test the result.
Typography and mobile
The same panel is where you reach Typography Settings for heading and paragraph spacing, and Mobile Formatting for phone-specific tweaks.
Good to know: Changing Appearance affects the whole email, so make these choices before polishing individual blocks.
