Choose Between the Standard and Advanced Builder

Workflows offers two canvas styles. The Standard builder is a simple vertical flow that is quick to read. The Advanced builder is a free-form canvas that supports extra tools such as go-to connections, independent branches, and disabled steps.

Set the default builder

The default decides which view opens when someone creates a new workflow. It does not change workflows that already exist.

  1. Go to Automation > Global Workflow Settings. Only account administrators see this panel.
  2. Find the Default Workflow Builder option.
  3. Choose Standard Builder or Advanced Builder.
  4. Save your selection.

You can also reach these settings from the Settings tab inside any workflow.

Control who can switch

Administrators can pick which roles may change an individual workflow between builders. Limiting this is wise on workflows that rely on Advanced-only features, because converting back to Standard requires removing those features first.

Switch a single workflow

Inside the workflow, use the builder view toggle. Before returning to Standard, delete any Advanced-only elements, such as go-to connectors, delinked clusters, or disabled steps.

Which to pick

  • Choose Standard for straightforward, top-to-bottom automations and for team members who are new to Workflows.
  • Choose Advanced for branching logic, side-by-side paths, or highly organized large builds.

Good to know: Roll out the Advanced builder to your power users first, then widen access once the team is comfortable.
