International SMS Compliance

Texting rules vary significantly by country. If you're messaging contacts outside the US, check whether your destination country has specific requirements — a few notable ones below.

United Kingdom

The UK blocks international numbers from sending regular business texts to UK recipients. To message UK contacts compliantly, you need one of:

  • A UK local number
  • An approved alphanumeric sender ID
  • A short code

Any UK-bound number also needs an approved Regulatory Compliance bundle with KYC (identity verification) completed — see Regulatory Bundles & Address Verification and Identity Verification (KYC) for Phone Numbers.

Turkey

As of April 2026, international texts to Turkish recipients cannot contain any links — no URLs, hyperlinks, or shortened links of any kind. This applies to every type of message, including appointment confirmations and one-time codes, not just marketing. Messages containing a link will be blocked and show error 30007. If you need to send a link-based message to a Turkish contact, describe the destination in words instead, or direct them to search for your business by name.

Mexico

If texts to Mexican contacts appear to come from a different number than you sent them from, this is normal carrier behavior, not an error on your account. Mexican carriers enforce strict anti-spam rules and will automatically rewrite the sender ID on high-volume or rapid-fire messages sent from a standard number. To get a consistent, recognizable sender ID for Mexico, register an approved sender ID or route through a compliant channel.

General approach for any country

Before running a campaign into a new country, check that country's current SMS regulations — requirements change over time, and non-compliant messages are typically blocked outright rather than just delayed.
