Use Custom Values in Ad Copy

Custom Values let you store details such as your business name, city, phone number or current offer once, then drop them into ad text. Your Meta, Google and LinkedIn copy stays consistent, and you avoid retyping the same things in every ad.

Where they work

  • Meta: Primary Text, Headline, Description.
  • Google: Headlines, Descriptions.
  • LinkedIn: Intro or Primary Text and Headline where supported.

They do not work in URLs, call-to-action menus, lead form pickers, media uploads, targeting, budget or bidding. If a field has no Insert Custom Values icon, type the content manually.

Set up and use them

  1. Go to Settings > Custom Values and click + Add Custom Value.
  2. Enter a name (for example business name or city) and the exact text to show in ads.
  3. Click Create and repeat for each detail you reuse.
  4. In Marketing > Ad Manager, open or create a campaign and go to the ad copy step.
  5. Click into a supported field and choose the Insert Custom Values icon.
  6. Pick a value, then write around it, such as a sentence that names your business and city.
  7. Before reviewing, click Map custom values to check each placeholder and fill in anything missing.
  8. Click Review and confirm every placeholder now shows real text and the copy fits the platform limits.
  9. Publish.

Things to remember

  • Validation blocks publishing while a value is missing, blank or invalid, or when the resolved text exceeds a character limit.
  • Changing a Custom Value later affects only future campaigns. Edit and republish a live campaign to update its text.
  • Campaigns saved as templates keep the placeholders, so you can reuse them with different values.

Good to know: Keep values short, because the finished sentence is what counts against character limits, not the placeholder.
