AI Analyze Image Fails or Returns Nothing Useful

The AI Analyze Image action fetches your image itself from the link you provide. When the result is an error or an empty answer, the cause is usually the link or the prompt.

Things to check

Check that the link is public

The AI reads the image from the internet without logging in. Open the link in a private browser window. If you are asked to sign in, or the picture does not appear, the AI cannot see it either.

The link must not:

  • Require a password, login or token.
  • Be a private share link or permission-restricted drive file.
  • Sit on an internal network.
  • Point to a web page that merely contains the picture, instead of the image file itself.

Images stored in your Media Storage, including ones made by AI Image Generation, are already public.

Check the variable

If the URL comes from an earlier step, make sure that step produced a value. In the Execution Logs, look at the input of the analyze step. A blank or placeholder link means the previous action returned nothing or you inserted the wrong variable.

Check the prompt

  • Be specific: "Read the total on this receipt and return only the number."
  • Ask for a simple format if you plan to save the result.
  • Split complex requests into two actions.

Check the detail level

Low gives a faster, broader read and may miss small text. Switch to High for receipts, screenshots and fine print.

Try another model

If answers are inconsistent, run the same image and prompt with the other available model and compare.

Quick checklist

  1. Link opens in a private window.
  2. URL points to a real image file.
  3. Variable is populated in the log.
  4. Prompt is precise.
  5. Detail Level suits the image.

Good to know: Uploading the picture into your media library first is the most reliable way to get a public link.
