Bulk Import Custom Object Records From a CSV
Import many records at once instead of typing them in one by one, with options to create, update or do both.
Import modes
- Create: only add new records.
- Update: only change existing ones.
- Create & Update: do both when your file mixes new and existing records.
Steps
- Open Custom Objects and choose the object.
- Click Import at the top right.
- Upload your CSV and choose the import mode.
- If several unique fields are mapped, pick the one used to detect duplicates.
- Map your columns. Map primary and required fields first, then the rest, including owner and followers.
- Turn on Update empty values only if blank cells should overwrite existing data. Primary and required fields are excluded.
- Click Start Import.
Track and control it
Go to Bulk Actions > Custom Objects to see progress. You can pause, resume or cancel. Canceling stops further processing, but rows already processed stay applied.
Fix problems
Open the import and view its stats. The Errors and Warnings tabs list row-level problems with guidance on how to resolve each. A row that would give a unique field a value another record already has is flagged.
Importing several objects from one file is not available yet.
Good to know: Test with a five-row file first to confirm your mapping before loading thousands of records.
