Showing or Hiding Elements by Device
Device visibility decides whether a block appears on desktop screens, mobile screens, or both. Content you hide is not deleted, so you can bring it back at any time.
Element or layout
- Element visibility: hides a single block, such as a decorative banner on phones.
- Layout visibility: hides a whole row and everything inside it. If a layout is hidden on a device, its elements do not show there even if their own settings say visible.
Hide an element on one device
- Go to Marketing > Emails and open a campaign or template.
- Click the element.
- Open the Visibility tab.
- Under device-based visibility, choose Desktop, Mobile or both.
- Turn off the device where it should be hidden.
- Save, then preview both views.
Hide a whole layout
Select the layout and either use the visibility tab or click the desktop or mobile icons that appear when you hover. A grayed-out icon means the layout is hidden on that device.
Typical patterns
- Build a three-column layout for desktop and a separate single column for mobile, then hide each on the other device.
- Hide big decorative images on phones to keep the message and button above the fold.
- Show a short call button only on mobile.
Visibility versus formatting versus conditions
- Use device visibility when content should not appear at all on a device.
- Use mobile formatting when the content stays but looks different.
- Use conditional rules when the decision depends on contact data rather than device.
Testing
Test emails reflect these settings, so send one to a phone and a computer.
Good to know: Never hide a layout on both devices unless you intend to remove it, because it will not be sent at all.
