Trigger a Workflow from Video Progress

You can follow how much of a hosted video each visitor watches and start a Workflow when they reach a chosen percentage, for example tagging engaged viewers or sending an offer.

Prepare the video

  1. Use a Hosted Video element on your page.
  2. Make sure the video is encoded. Only encoded videos appear in the trigger filters.
  3. Turn off Show Progress Bar in the video settings so viewers cannot skip around. Skipping makes the results less accurate.
  4. Put the video behind a form so viewers are known Contacts, or use Redirect Unregistered Visitors.

Build the Workflow

  1. Go to Workflows and create a new workflow.
  2. Add the video tracking trigger.
  3. Choose the funnel or website and select the video.
  4. Set the completion percentage, such as 25, 50 or 90 percent.
  5. Add actions: apply a tag, send an email or SMS, create an opportunity or notify your team.
  6. Save and publish the workflow.

Ideas

  • At 50 percent, send a "still watching?" text.
  • At 90 percent, tag the Contact as hot and create a task to call them.
  • At 10 percent, do nothing, since the visitor is barely engaged.

Testing

Watch your own video past the chosen percentage using a Contact record, then check Contacts for the tag or action.

Good to know: Accuracy depends on the progress bar being hidden, so decide on that before you launch.
