Setting Up an RSS Email Campaign

An RSS campaign sends a recurring digest of new feed content, such as your latest blog posts, instead of one email per post.

How it works

You add RSS blocks to an email, provide the feed address in the send settings and set a schedule. Each time the campaign runs, it includes entries published since the previous send. For a first send, entries published after you scheduled the campaign are included.

Before you begin

  • Create an email design to use.
  • Make sure your sending domain is set up and verified.
  • Find your feed address. Look for an RSS icon on the site, check the page source for rss or xml, or try endings such as /feed, /rss or /rss.xml.

Steps

  1. Go to Marketing > Emails > Campaigns and click Create Campaign.
  2. Choose a design and add an RSS Header or RSS Items block.
  3. Click Send or Schedule.
  4. Add recipients by contact or smart list.
  5. Enter the From address and optional name.
  6. Write the Subject and optional preview text.
  7. Choose the RSS delivery method.
  8. Paste your RSS Feed URL.
  9. Choose Daily, Weekly or Monthly, and a send time.
  10. Untick any days you do not want to send.
  11. Set the maximum number of items if you want to limit the digest, for instance five.
  12. Check the displayed next execution date, time and time zone, then schedule.

Testing

When you send a test email with RSS blocks, enter a feed address in the test dialog so the blocks have content to display.

When there is nothing new

If no entries appeared in a cycle, nothing is sent that time. The audit log records the skipped run.

Good to know: Set a maximum item count so a busy week does not produce a very long email.
