Checking That Google Analytics 4 Works on Your Funnel Pages

Use this checklist when GA4 shows no data from a funnel page. Work through it in order.

1. Confirm the Tag Loads

  1. Open the funnel page in Chrome, right-click and choose Inspect.
  2. Go to the Network tab and refresh.
  3. Filter for gtag/js and collect.
  4. Look for requests to google-analytics.com/collect or google.com/ccm/collect.

If they appear, the tag is installed and sending. If not, it may be missing, pasted incorrectly, or blocked.

2. Use Tag Assistant

Open Google Tag Assistant, enter your funnel domain, start a debug session and reload the page. You should see a page_view event plus any custom events you expect, such as form submissions or button clicks.

3. Confirm in GA4 Realtime

In your analytics account, pick the right property, open Reports > Realtime, then visit the page or trigger the event. If nothing shows, check for:

  • the wrong Measurement ID,
  • the tag installed on a different domain,
  • a property mismatch,
  • data filters excluding your traffic.

4. Check Browser Errors

Open the Console tab and look for messages such as "gtag is not defined", blocked scripts or Content Security Policy errors. These can stop tracking.

Where the Tag Belongs

Place the base GA4 snippet once, in the funnel or website Head tracking code under Settings, rather than on every page, to avoid double counting.

When to Ask for Help

Contact support if the tag looks installed but events do not fire, events appear in Tag Assistant but not GA4, or you see blocking errors you cannot resolve.

Good to know: Browser ad blockers hide GA4 traffic, so test in a clean window with extensions turned off.
