Write Personalized Facebook and Instagram Comment Replies with AI
A fixed list of canned replies can feel robotic. By putting an AI step ahead of the reply action, each answer can respond to what the commenter actually wrote.
What you need
- A workflow with the Facebook - User comments on a post or Instagram - User comments on a post trigger.
- Your social accounts connected under Settings > Integrations.
Build it
- Open or create the workflow and set up the comment trigger with your page and post.
- Add the GPT powered by OpenAI action before the reply step.
- Set Action Type to Custom.
- Write a prompt that explains your goal, for example: "Reply to this comment in one warm sentence and invite them to check their messages."
- Using the merge field picker, insert the comment body from the trigger into the prompt, then save.
- Add the Reply in Comments action.
- In the reply field, choose the AI step's output from the merge field picker.
- Publish.
Optional upgrades
- Ask the AI to rate the comment as positive, neutral, or negative, then use If/Else to send a private message only to positive commenters.
- Add a short Wait before replying so the response doesn't look instant.
- Keep a fallback in the fixed-replies list in case the AI step returns nothing.
Tips for the prompt
- Specify length, tone, and any words to avoid.
- Tell the AI never to promise prices or deadlines.
- Say what to do for spam or off-topic comments.
Good to know: Test with your own comment on a private test post before pointing the workflow at a live campaign.
