Create and Send Invoices

Invoices let you bill a customer for products or services and track whether they've been paid, without requiring the customer to check out on a live order form.

Create an invoice

  1. Go to Payments > Invoices and click New.
  2. The invoice editor shows your details on one side and a live preview on the other — edits update the preview instantly.
  3. Click the "from" information to edit your business details, then add the customer, an invoice date, and a due date.
  4. Add line items by typing a product name and pressing enter to pull it in from your product list, or add a one-off item that isn't in your catalog. Adjust quantities and prices as needed.
  5. Apply a tax rate by clicking Add Tax next to a line item, and apply a discount if relevant.
  6. Use the toolbar to add optional extras — late fees, a tipping option, or a payment schedule for installments.

Send it

Click the send button to deliver the invoice by email or SMS. You can send a test version to yourself first to check formatting before it goes to the customer.

Track it

The Invoices tab lists every invoice with filters for status and date range, so you can quickly see what's outstanding. Related payment activity for an invoice shows in the Transactions tab.

A few things worth knowing

  • If you don't have a payment processor connected, customers can't pay online — you'll need to record payments manually instead.
  • A shareable link to the invoice is available any time from the invoice itself, useful if you want to send it through a channel other than email or SMS.
  • Once an invoice is fully paid, it can't be voided directly — you'd need to refund the payment first.

For invoices that repeat on a schedule, see Create and Manage Recurring Invoices. For splitting a single invoice into installments, see Set Up Payment Plans on Invoices.
