Automate Affiliate Leads: Lead Created Trigger and Add Leads under an Affiliate

Two workflow tools handle the lead side of your program: a trigger that reacts to new affiliate leads and an action that assigns contacts to an affiliate.

The Lead Created Trigger

Starts when a new affiliate-attributed lead is created.

  1. Go to Automation > Workflows and click + Create Workflow.
  2. Choose the Lead Created trigger.
  3. To limit it to one campaign, click Add filters > Campaign > Is and pick it. Leave it blank for all campaigns.
  4. Click Save Trigger.
  5. Add actions such as emailing the affiliate, notifying your team or tagging the lead, then publish.

The Add Leads under an Affiliate Action

Assigns a contact to an affiliate and campaign. Three methods are available:

  1. Manual: Pick the campaign and an affiliate in it. Best for admin decisions and internal routing.
  2. Auto (Attribution): Reads the affiliate ID parameter (am_id) from the URL earlier in the journey. Choose First or Last attribution. The ID must already have been passed through the form or page URL.
  3. Custom Mapping: Reads the ID from a custom field or workflow value, handy for hidden form fields and outside systems.

Examples

  • A lead submits a form, gets credited to the right affiliate, and the affiliate receives a congratulations message.
  • Funnel leads are routed to specific affiliates for personal follow-up.
  • A manual assignment routine is replaced by a workflow.

Good to know: First attribution never changes after it is set, while last attribution updates with each new visit.
