Layout-Level Visibility and Conditional Rules
Hiding sections one element at a time is slow. Layout-level visibility lets you control a full row, including all its columns, with a click.
Device rules for layouts
- Create or open an email template or campaign.
- Add a layout block to the canvas.
- Hover over the layout. Desktop and mobile icons appear on the block.
- Click an icon to toggle that device. A grayed-out icon means the layout is hidden there.
- Alternatively, select the layout and open the Visibility tab in the left panel.
- Switch between desktop and mobile preview from the toolbar.
- Send a test to confirm what shows in a real inbox.
Conditional rules for layouts
You can also show or hide a layout based on contact data.
- Select the layout.
- Open the Visibility tab.
- Turn on conditional visibility.
- Pick a custom field to check.
- Choose a condition: Is, Is Not, Is Empty or Is Present.
- Enter a value if the condition needs one.
- Save.
For instance, show a loyalty section only when a membership field is present.
How it combines with element settings
If a layout is hidden, nothing inside renders, regardless of inner element settings. Inner elements can still carry their own rules when the layout is visible.
Best practices
- Reserve desktop-only layouts for wide or multi-column designs.
- Keep one mobile-friendly alternative visible.
- Always preview both views.
Good to know: Test sends preserve both device and conditional visibility, so they are a reliable check before going live.
