Collect Card Details in a Document
Some agreements need a card on file before work begins — a deposit hold, a subscription setup, or a "pay later" authorization. You can add a dedicated card-collection field directly to a document, separate from actually charging the card right away.
Requirements
You need an active, supported payment provider connected to your account before this field will work.
Adding the field
- In the document editor, open the Add Element panel.
- Add a Card Details field to the document.
- Assign it to the specific signer who should provide their card.
- In the field's properties, mark it as required if the document shouldn't be completable without it.
What the signer sees
When the signer reaches this field, a secure entry window opens where they enter their card number, expiration date, security code, and country. This is a protected input — the card details aren't stored as plain document content.
What happens to the card afterward
The card is securely saved on file through your connected payment provider, ready to be used for future charges — an invoice, a subscription, or an auto-pay setup you configure separately.
Important: this doesn't charge anything by itself
Collecting a card through this field does not trigger an immediate charge. If you want the card charged right away as part of signing, that's a separate Direct Payment setup — this field is purely for capturing and saving payment details for later use.
