Add Notes and Sticky Notes to a Workflow
Complex automations are easier to maintain when the reasoning behind them is written down where your team can see it. Workflows offers three kinds of notes inside the builder.
Workflow notes
A workflow note describes the whole automation: its goal, who owns it, or special instructions. Notes are saved with the workflow and show who created or edited them and when.
- Open a workflow and click the Notes icon in the left sidebar.
- Type your description in the panel.
- Save the workflow to keep the note.
Action notes
An action note explains a single step, for example why a wait is set to two days.
- Hover over any action on the canvas.
- Click the notes icon at its top-right corner.
- Write your note. Teammates can add follow-up comments, and the history is preserved.
Once an action has a note, the icon stays visible. All action notes are also searchable from the main Notes panel.
Sticky notes
Sticky notes float on the canvas itself, which makes them ideal for labeling sections of a large build.
- Click Sticky Notes in the sidebar.
- Choose a color. Use different colors for different purposes, such as red for "needs review."
- Type your text. You can format it with the rich text editor and attach images.
- Use Hide Notes to clear the canvas when you want an uncluttered view.
Good to know: Keep a sticky note next to any step that depends on a setting made elsewhere, so the next editor does not break it by accident.
