Follow Up Based on How Much of a Video Was Watched
The Video Tracking trigger starts a workflow when a viewer reaches a chosen percentage of a video hosted on one of your funnel pages. That lets you respond to genuine interest rather than guessing.
Requirement
The viewer must already exist as a contact. A visitor who has never submitted a form cannot be matched.
Prepare the video and page
- Make sure the video is encoded properly for tracking.
- Turn off the video's progress bar in its settings so progress is measured accurately.
- Capture visitor details before playback. A common pattern is a short page with a form that redirects to the video page.
Create the trigger
- Go to Automation > Workflows and create a workflow.
- Click Add New Trigger and choose Video Tracking.
- Optionally set the filters (none are mandatory): Funnel, Video, and Video Duration (%), such as 25, 50, 75 or 100.
- Save the trigger and add your actions.
Workflow ideas
- Webinar nurture: at 50%, send a thank-you with resources. At 100%, invite viewers to book a consultation.
- Lead scoring: add points at 25%, 50% and 75% so engaged viewers rise to the top. Add a Modify Engagement Score step.
- Drop-off recovery: when a viewer reaches 25% but not 100%, wait a day and send a "finish watching" link.
- Sales alerts: at 100%, create a task for a salesperson to call.
Tips
- Build one workflow per milestone so each fires cleanly.
- Add a tag at each milestone so later branches can check how far someone got.
- Test using a known contact's tracked link before announcing the video.
- Do not use the video trigger alone for time-sensitive offers; add a wait and a check for other recent activity.
Good to know: Tracking depends on knowing who the viewer is, so the form-before-video page is the most important setup step.
