Keep a Countdown Timer in Sync Between Email and Landing Page
When an email promotes a deadline, the page the reader clicks through to should show the same clock. Syncing means using one saved timer in both places rather than building two lookalikes and matching their settings by hand.
The Flow
- A contact gets an email with a countdown.
- They click the button.
- The landing page shows the matching timer.
- When the timer ends, the expired behavior takes over.
Prepare
Build the destination pages, decide what live and expired visitors should see, then create and save the timer under Marketing, then Countdown Timers. Pick the type that fits: Fixed for a shared deadline, Recurring for repeating schedules, Dynamic for personal windows.
Wire It Together
- Save the timer with both an Active Link (the offer page) and an Expired Link (the ended page).
- Open Marketing, then Emails, then Templates, and edit your email in the design editor.
- Add the Countdown Timer element and choose the saved timer.
- Apply the timer's redirection link to your button.
- Open your page in Sites, add the Countdown Timers element, and choose the same timer.
- Preview both and send a test email.
Dynamic Timers and Time Zones
For dynamic timers, use the same saved timer in the email and on the page so the contact's countdown continues smoothly. If you enable Adapt to Contact Time Zone, emails use the contact's zone and pages use the visitor's detected zone.
Troubleshooting
If clocks disagree, confirm both placements use the same saved timer, not copies.
Good to know: Edit the saved timer once and both placements update together.
