Track Any Deal Update with the Opportunity Changed Trigger

When you want to know that something about an opportunity was edited, not only that its status moved, use Opportunity Changed. It is the broadest of the deal triggers and watches value, stage, owner, tags and custom fields.

How it differs from related triggers

  • Opportunity Status Changed reacts only to open, won, lost or abandoned moves.
  • Pipeline Stage Changed reacts only to stage moves.
  • Opportunity Changed covers general edits, which makes it flexible but more likely to fire often. Use filters to stay specific.

Operators for change-aware filters

Several filters can check what happened to the field, not just its current value:

  • Has Changed: the field was updated to anything new.
  • Has Changed To: the field was updated to the exact value you pick.
  • Equals: a change occurred while the field holds a given value.

Common filters

  • Assigned To: with the operators above. "Has Changed To" a senior rep is a good handoff alert.
  • Tag: only when the opportunity has the tag you choose; supports Any of and None of.
  • Fields such as lead value, pipeline stage and custom fields, including date fields.

Existing workflows that already use this trigger keep their old behaviour until you edit them.

Set it up

  1. Go to Automation > Workflows and create a workflow.
  2. Click Add New Trigger and select Opportunity Changed.
  3. Name it, such as "Deal reassigned".
  4. Click Add filters, choose Assigned To, then Has Changed.
  5. Click Save Trigger, add actions, and publish.

Example

When a high-value deal is reassigned, notify the new owner, add a note summarizing the last interaction and create a call task due tomorrow.

Good to know: Add at least one filter; with none, every small edit starts the workflow.
