Reassign the Contact Linked to an Affiliate
Every affiliate is tied to a contact record. If that link points to the wrong record, often because of duplicate contacts for the same person, you can relink it without deleting anything.
What Changes
- Future tracking and new commissions follow the newly linked contact.
- Workflows that reference the affiliate's contact will continue with the new profile.
- Commissions already calculated or paid generally stay as they are.
- Some historical report views may not recalculate, so check them report by report.
Steps
- Go to Marketing > Affiliate Manager and open the Affiliate list.
- Click the three-dot menu on the affiliate's row and choose Reassign Contact.
- In the pop-up, use Select Contact to search by name or email.
- Choose the correct contact record.
- Click Confirm, or Cancel if you picked the wrong one.
Reassign, Merge or Move Customers?
| Action | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Reassign contact | The affiliate points to the wrong contact |
| Merge contacts | Two contacts are really one person and should become one record (done in Contacts) |
| Move customers | A customer belongs to a different affiliate |
Limits
- No bulk option: reassign one affiliate at a time.
- No undo button, but you can repeat the steps to choose another contact.
- If the duplicates have different emails, merging first is usually cleaner.
- You need permission to manage both Affiliate Manager and Contacts.
Good to know: Check your duplicate-contact preferences and workflow matching rules to avoid creating the same problem again.
