Create, Update and Clear a Contact's Company in a Workflow

Three actions in contact-based workflows keep a contact's linked company record accurate: Create and Associate Company, Update Associated Company and Clear Associated Company Fields. They only appear in workflows built around contacts.

Create and Associate Company

Creates a new company and links it to the contact that started the workflow. Map company fields with + Add Field, using contact fields, inbound webhook values or fixed text. The link shows in the contact's Associated Companies section and the company's Associated Contacts section. If the contact already has a company, a second company is created without being linked.

Example: Contact Created trigger, then Company Name from the contact's company name field and Industry set to "Lead Company".

Update Associated Company

Changes fields on the company already linked to the contact, without creating anything. It updates the primary company, and is skipped automatically if there is none.

Example: When a contact's address changes, copy Address, City and State to the company.

Clear Associated Company Fields

Empties selected fields, standard or custom, on the primary linked company. It does not delete the company or break the link and cannot clear contact fields. It is skipped if no company is linked.

Example: When a contact changes employer, clear the previous company's point-of-contact field.

Set them up

  1. Open the workflow and click +.
  2. Choose the action from the company-related options.
  3. Add field rows or the fields to clear.
  4. Click Save Action and publish.

Good to know: Review mappings carefully, since an update overwrites existing company values.
