Mobile Formatting in the Email Builder

Email blocks are responsive by default, but sometimes a headline that looks great on a desktop is too large on a phone. Mobile Formatting lets you override selected styles for small screens without touching the desktop design.

What you can adjust

  • Font size for headings (H1, H2, H3), paragraphs and buttons.
  • Line height.
  • Text alignment.
  • Button styling and padding.
  • Spacing around blocks.

How overrides work

Desktop styling is the baseline. A mobile setting only takes effect after you switch on its mobile override toggle. With the toggle off, the phone version simply follows the default. For example, a 32px heading can display at 24px on phones when you enable the override and enter 24.

Applying mobile formatting

  1. Go to Marketing > Emails and open a campaign or template.
  2. Click Appearance.
  3. Find Mobile Formatting.
  4. Switch on the override for each setting you want to change.
  5. Enter the new values.
  6. Preview in mobile view, then send a test to a real phone.

Practical guidelines

  • Body text around 14 to 16 pixels and headlines near 22 stay readable.
  • Make buttons large enough to tap comfortably, ideally 44 by 44 pixels.
  • Center-align short headings if it feels more balanced on narrow screens.
  • Prefer a single column and plenty of white space.

Not the same as hiding content

Mobile Formatting changes how something looks. To remove something from a device entirely, use device visibility instead.

Compatibility

Mobile overrides rely on media queries, which a few inbox apps ignore. In those, the default style is shown.

Good to know: Start with a small number of overrides. Too many device-specific tweaks make emails harder to maintain.
