Using Custom Fonts in Emails

A branded typeface helps emails feel like part of your business, but fonts behave differently across inbox apps. Choose the simplest method that meets your needs.

Your font options

  • Built-in fonts: the safest choice. They appear in the text toolbar and render almost everywhere.
  • Brand fonts: fonts saved to your default brand board appear under Brand Fonts in the font menu.
  • Google Fonts: add them straight from the builder, with no code.
  • Custom code: advanced users can add HTML or CSS through a Code element.

Add a Google Font

  1. Go to Marketing > Emails and open a campaign or template.
  2. Select a text block.
  3. Open the Font dropdown and click Add fonts.
  4. Choose a Google Font and click Add font.
  5. Pick the new font from the dropdown to apply it.

Apply a brand font

  1. Open the email in the Design Editor.
  2. Select the text.
  3. Open the Font dropdown and choose a font under Brand Fonts. Only fonts from the current default brand board appear.

Fallback fonts

Some inbox apps, including common webmail and desktop clients, will not load outside fonts. They quietly substitute another typeface instead, so make sure the email still looks good and stays readable with the fallback.

Licensing

Check that your font license allows use in email and on the web before relying on it.

Testing checklist

  • Headings do not wrap awkwardly with the fallback.
  • Buttons still fit their labels.
  • Mobile layout stays readable.

Good to know: Use decorative fonts for short headlines and a plain, readable font for body text.
