Adding Video Previews to Emails

Inboxes cannot play video inside a message, so the Video element does the next best thing: it shows a thumbnail with a play button and sends the reader to your video when they click.

Where it is available

The Video element appears in the Design Editor and in email templates. Find it in the Elements panel.

Adding a video

  1. Go to Marketing > Emails and click + Create Campaign, then choose Blank and Design Editor, or open an existing template.
  2. Drag Video into your layout.
  3. Pick the Video Type: YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia or HTML5.
  4. Paste the Video URL.
  5. Review the thumbnail that loads automatically in Video Thumbnail URL.
  6. Optionally click Replace to upload your own thumbnail (up to 10MB), or Remove to clear it.
  7. Set width and height, or leave them empty for full width.
  8. Add padding as needed.

Good to know about the settings

  • The play button style follows the video platform, such as a red button for YouTube.
  • If the thumbnail fails to load, a warning appears. This often means the video type does not match the link.
  • Custom width and height lock the element to the left. To center it, use padding or place it in a multi-column layout.
  • A GIF can serve as the thumbnail for a lively preview.

Good to know: Always click the play button in a test email to confirm it opens the right video.
